Femme Chair design Inspired by Knotting Techniques Used on Ships
Rik ten Velden started his ‘Single Knotted Wire’ project with a visit to the harbour museum in Rotterdam. He met two employees of the museum specialised in knotting techniques which are used on a ship.
He was fascinated by all those different kinds of objects they knotted. So he asked them if they could teach him some techniques.
He knotted for three months to perfect the technique. Then he started to work on his designs. For the lamps and chair only a single wire is used and knotted in a form reflecting its maritime inspiration.
The chair is made of a solid steel frame. 2 elements welded together creating a floor circle and a seat circle. The frame is powdercoated in colors black and oxide red.
Any RAL color can be adapted on request. The seat of the chair comes in 3 different colors: Beige, Black and Marine Blue.
